Burnaby North business activities are concentrated around Brentwood Shopping Mall and along Lougheed Highway that pases through it. Another shopping area in North Burnaby is along East Hastings Street popularly referred to as The Heights. In recent years, many new condo towers were built around Brentwood Town Center. The Millennium Skytrain Line connecting Downtown Vancouver passes through Brentwood Shopping Centre to Lougheed Mall/Clarke Station, extending to Lafage Lake - Douglas Station.
Burnaby South's business district is the Metrotown area and shopping is centrated at the Metropolis at the Metrotown Shopping Mall. Around the Metropolis and along Kingsway connecting East Vancouver to New Westminster, many new condo towers were built and the densification of Burnaby is planned around this area.
Many of the old 3 storey apartment buildings to the south of Metrotown Metropolis were assembled into larger plot to develop into new highrise towers. One of the tallest highrise towers, Concord Metrotown stands at 219.5 meters tall.
